HOW TO | find your style

1. Start With Style Inspiration

It’s an easy first step to get a look of what you like by looking at images of different famous women, girl, celebrities instagram account... to found someone who dress the way that would dress.

Then, when you have an idea of what you want, you have to think of it in an everyday way, depending of you age, your work …

For that, check Pinterest . Create a personal style board and pin images you love, or as many images of all the things you like, and then only keep the one you really love. You might like diiferent styles, but you have to remember that they have a difference between liking a style and wanting to wear it everydays. The pictures you’ll keep are the one of the style you want to wear everydays.

Knowing your preferences is the first step in finding your style and making the right choices so here some questions you can ask to yourself for helping you :

  • do you prefer pants or skirts ?

  • are you minimal or do you prefer accessories outfits ?

  • what color shows up the most ?

  • do you like basic or work/business outfits ?

Go on your Pinterest board and do a quick edit removing everything that doesn’t get you to your favorite look. You can also go in your closet with your Pinterest board open and see if your current wardrobe is a similar of what you pin.

2. Choose Your Favorites From Your Closet & pick some signature pieces

Here’s a way to narrow down your closet to the style you love and make you feel yourself. Take everything out from your closet, and go through each item. If you love wearing one item, feel comfortable in it and if it looks great on you, then put it back in your closet you have to keep it ! If any items don’t look great on your or if you just don’t like it, store them away, sell them or donate them. You’ll find that if you eliminate items from your closet that doesn’t fit your style, you will have a closet that match your style perfectly.

As you’re looking at your closet, ask yourself what pieces keep showing up. It can be jeans, skirts, neutral colors, animal prints, sleek dresses, jewelry… you can also use a capsule wardrobe system to focus on your chosen style.

3. Look At Brands You Love

Look in your closet and check the brands of clothes you own. What are the most brands you have? This step can be really helpful because each brand has its own style. If you like to shop at a few stores that have the same kind of style that you like, then that is most likely your style. These will help define your personal style and make it easier for you to buy new clothes .

*if you buy new clothes, choose some that you can wear in three different ways, if you can’t wear it three different ways, at least try to wear it for three different occasions.

4. Trust your instincts

It’s important to trust your instincts. As you move through this process you’ll start to feel more confident in your choices. Don’t wear something because someone told you to, don’t buy something just because it’s on sale, buy it because you want it and you like it ! The process of building a wardrobe that fit you perfectly takes time. Write a list of what you could use to pull some outfits together, and only purchase from that list.
